You mean you replaced the INTERNAL Hard Drive and are trying to update the firmware I assume? Connect the USB storage device that the update file is saved on to your PS4™ system, and then touch the power button for at least 7 seconds.
If that's the case you need your usb formatted to FAT32, Folders set up. Boot up in SAFE MODE and the rest should be easy peasy. The PS4™ system starts in safe mode Select [Initialize PS4™ (Reinstall System Software)]. If your PS4™ system does not recognize the update file, check that the folder names and file name are correct.

If the power indicator is lit up in orange, touch the power button on the PS4™ system for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps a second time).
This problem relates to replacing my hard drive in my PS3 with a new larger unit. but when I boot the PS3 unit up I get the following message: "Connect the Controller using a USB cable then press the PS button." When I do that...
I get another message: "The system software cannot be run correctly. If the system cannot be restarted correctly, the system partition of the hard disk must be reformatted and you must reinstall the system software. It appears to be at the point of the initial setup now... Its taking me through the whole setup process now... I can only assume the hard drive will be there once its finished. A new HDD needs to be formatted by the PS3 (in case you want dual boot Linux/PS3 partitions) and then the firmware needs to be installed from the 'net or a USB stick.
